Established in 1949, as Douglas
County's first radio station, KXRA has enjoyed over 55 years of listenership
featuring news, information, community events, the area's only local
talk show called Open Line, Swap Shop and phone calls from community
groups and listeners. Add to this the talent of both local hosts, and
national personalities like Lars Larson and Jim Bohannon and you have
a station that owns the news/talk segment in Douglas County.
With a target audience of 45-65+, KXRA's audience includes families
with college bound young adults, empty-nesters and those who are retiring
to the Lakes Area for the fun and fresh air. These listeners are loyal,
active and in their prime earning years. And they are among the fastest
growing age demographic in Douglas County.
In addition to local weather, talk, information and events, KXRA offers
the area's only local sports programming, as well as updates on Minnesota
Sports from the Minnesota News Network. Our coverage of weather from
the Weather Eye Weather Center keeps visitors and locals up to date
365 days a year.
It's our hope that when you hold up a mirror to Alexandria, you see
KXRA in the reflection. We are THE local venue for news and information
in Douglas County.

Patty Wicken, Morning Show Host
Patty has been in radio on and off since 1978. This is her third
time around at KXRA. When she's not working, Patty enjoys camping,
canoeing and hanging out with her grandchildren. Patty's favorite
"listener dish" is the scalloped fish that the Forada
Birthday Club brought in.

Dennis Anhalt, News Director
& Open Line Host
Denny has been in radio since 1969, and here at KXRA since 1988.
Denny loves to play golf, pontoon around the lakes, and of course,
spend time with his grandsons Hunter and Isaac. When asked what
his favorite "listener dish is" Denny replied, "I
have to pick just one?" His lists garlic cucumber sandwiches,
glorified rice, rosettes and hotdish among his favorites.

Dave Harris, Sports Director
Dave is the voice of the Alexandria
Cardinals. Dave started at KXRA in 1967 and has been involved with
Cardinal sports ever since. Dave may be retired from teaching 9th
grade Physical Science, but he is far from retired. For the last
30 years, he has coached Jr. High, Jr. Varsity and Varsity Girls
Golf and is the Official Secretary of Region 8AA of the Minnesota
State High School League. When asked what his favorite "listener
dish" was, Dave replied that he's here too early in the morning
to have sampled any of them, but he's sure that they are all delicious. |
 |
Lonnie Wing, Program Director
& Swap Shop Host
Lonnie began his radio career in 1981, and has been employed on
and off at KXRA since 1984. When he's not at the station, Lonnie
enjoys landscaping, playing the ukele, and doting on his granddaughter.
Lonnie's favorite "listener dish" comes courtesy of Bev
Bales, her garlic beef. |
 |
Kris Walsh, 5pm News Hour
Kris began her career in radio in 1985 doing the afternoon show
at her high school radio station. She has been at KXRA since 1999.
When not working on one of the three stations, Kris spends her time
spoiling her cats and dog, gardening and reading. It's a tie for
her favorite "listener dish" between the rosettes and
the fresh strawberry pie.

Charlie Christopherson
Charlie has been at KXRA since 1975, but he is better known as "Mr.
Christopherson" or "Mr. C" to many former and current
6th grade students at Lincoln Elementary School. When Charlie is
not teaching or on the air, he enjoys riding his motorcycle, hunting
and gardening. |
 |
Tom Chorley
Tom has been in broadcasting since 1967 and joined the KXRA staff
in September 2005. Tom and his wife recently moved from Florida
to Alexandria, after his wife accepted a teaching position at Zion
Lutheran School. Tom is retired from the grocery business and keeps
himself busy by singing and listening to music, collecting acorns
and staying close to home. |
